We have been having lots of fun in Cub Scouts... how could you not? We really love these boys. I told Chris the other day that I've decided I really like working with 10 year olds. We taught the ten year olds in primary a few years ago and we loved those kids and we love working the the Webelos now. They can read and sometimes have attention spans long enough that we can get things done. It's great!
This past month we've been working on the communicator pin. The Boys made up a code and wrote coded messages for the rest of the den. It was a fun activity. Chris wrote down the code for everyone and the boys kept wanting him to draw more elaborate things. I tried to talk them into using simple shapes like a triangle but they didn't like that idea.
We also made spinners as a gathering activity (thanks to my mom who provided most of the supplies :)
There was also a visit made to the a local newspaper. It was really interesting. The lady that gave the tour told the boys all about the different parts of the newspaper and how it all comes together. I think every one's favorite part of the tour was when they showed us the press. They don't use the press anymore but it was still really neat to see. They still had a giant roll of paper on the press and you could smell the ink. They even showed us the huge container they kept the ink in. A truck used to come fill the huge tank just like they fill the gas tanks at the gas stations but the container was above ground. It was amazing that the tank would only hold enough ink for one month. They are actually in the process of moving the press from the building because they no longer use it so I was glad we got a chance to see it.
Last night was Pack Meeting and we had another Webelos earning his Arrow of Light! His birthday is also is this coming week so he also had a bridging ceremony. It was an awesome night! He's going to come back for one night for our den pizza party too!
Someone forgot (not me) that we were supposed to assign treats for pack meeting this month. Since we hadn't assigned anyone I frantically made cookies for the hour and a half before we left for pack meeting. About 7 dozen cookies later I was amazed we made it to pack meeting on time. Whew!
