Memorial Day Weekend

I love long weekends with my family. They are the best!

Friday I got my carpet cleaned. We hadn't had it cleaned since we moved into the house... disgusting I know. But the carpet is clean and so pretty now. It's wonderful!

Saturday we got up I finished making the cake pops for the winner, dropped them off and headed to Salt Lake to the Natural History Museum. It was really big and the kids had lots of fun. They had a bug exhibit and a chocolate exhibit and dinosaurs.... What more could a kid need?

I asked for a smile and this is what Gavin gave me.

Bugs!
These two love their Baka
Mimi grinding cocoa beans to make chocolate... it smelled delicious!
After a long afternoon at the museum the kids both got to eat a cake pop. They are both big cake pop fans.

Sunday we had a picnic outside with our spaghetti and meatballs... big mistake. It was a big mess. Note to self stick to finger foods for picnics.

Brooklyn decided she loves collecting potato bugs. She was so funny. Gavin is still not a big fan.

Monday we still didn't get to sleep in. The kids were up before seven. Lol. I made breakfast and we hung around the house for a little bit. After everyone got ready we went up to Mimi and Grandpas house. They got out the kiddy pool for the kids and they had fun. Brooklyn got tired of it and decided to change back into her clothes and go find potato bugs... so of course we had to have a huge water fight and she got so wet she had to change back into her swimsuit so we could dry her clothes in the dryer. Brooklyn made sure daddy got completely soaked too.

Puppy Fix

Sometimes you just need a puppy fix. Mom and Dad don't have dogs anymore and the dog at Gma/Gpa Draudt's isn't the nicest so sometimes we have to find other ways to get a puppy fix. We've been wanting to check out the new RC Willey in Draper and they just happened to be having a puppy bowl and adoption on Saturday. Gavin loved seeing the puppies and the big balloon puppy "like Clifford".

Camp Williams was also having an open house/race (that none of us ran) this Saturday. I'm pretty sure the last time I went to Camp Williams was when I was like 14.... (which was a lot more fun with repelling and obstacle courses and swimming). But Gavin loved seeing all the trucks and got an army bracelet and some dog tags. It was cool to check things out since we live so close.

I also made a surprise birthday cake for Amy this weekend. I hope she loved it. Happy Birthday Amy!

I Just Feel Like Writing

I feel like writing even though we haven't really done anything.

On Wednesday I volunteered at a class taught at Orson Gygi's in Salt Lake. It was a buttercream class and I just thought it would be fun to watch. I didn't know they would be letting me decorate and take home a cake too... so that was pretty awesome. I haven never seen so much buttercream at once in my life. It smelled pretty good though thankfully. It's nice to go to the classes and the girl who teaches the classes is nice to answer my questions. I feel like most of my questions have to do with cake business not necessarily how to decorate cakes. It's hard to know when something is okay to ask and when you should just figure it out yourself... like I know I wouldn't ask for someones recipes or things like that. If someone else is trying to make a living doing the same thing... I dunno haha. I just try not to step on toes.

My cake cooked a little special :)

I made a cheesecake this week. It smelled so good (and I hear it was delicious) but it definitely wasn't as pretty as my normal cakes are. I also made cherry topping but let them put it on themselves... so I don't have a pictures of everything together. Cheesecake isn't something I'm planning on offering but it was a special request for a coworker.

Thanks Mom for the recipe!

I really appreciate all the support I have received in starting my business. I feel like it is such a learning process and I am still learning things every day. I feel like so many things in my life are to teach me patience and this is definitely one of them. I wish starting a business was just something that was done overnight and in a way I feel like it has been but on the other hand I still have a long ways to go. I still have a hard time charging people. When I was talking to another cake lady she said she charges an extra dollar per serving for fondant and if she were to do ganache and buttercream she would charge an extra 50 cents per serving. Cakes are expensive. They are expensive to make and time intensive.... also figuring out how many cakes I want to take on every week. One person says she will only take two cakes a week, another person said she will only take two cakes a month and another person I know takes 6+ cakes a week. I just haven't figured out the balance of everything.

I am so excited for the weekend.... and I'm wearing my new shoes today that I got for mothers day :)

The webelos have been working on their Handyman pin and one of the things they can pass off is washing a car.... so that's just what we did this week. They had fun and Gavin got soaked and loved every minute of it. Gavin loves when the scouts come over.

Mothers Day... Extreme Style

Mothers day is a little crazy in my opinion.... but I sure enjoyed my new shoes and my breakfast in bed :) (Thank you Chris)

Brooklyn brought her American Girl Doll with her and she insisted I get out my doll. I wasn't really sure where Samantha was but Daddy helped me find her and we had a little tea party. Maybe next time I'll get out more of my doll stuff to play with.

I swear Gavin wears pants sometimes haha.

We had a fun Saturday. After we worked in the yard for a little bit we decided to get out of the house. We went to Gardner Village and then stopped at the Jordan River Temple on our way home. The weather was a little chilly but beautiful.

They did so well at Gardner Village besides wanting to touch everything.
We know where to get old keys now. Amanda would have been in heaven.

Sunday we got to skype with Sister Draudt. She is awesome :) Gavin had said he would sing "Jesus Wants Me For a Sunbeam" but then when we were talking to Andrea he refused to sing or do anything but say "no".

Grandma Draudt helped Gavin make me a mothers day gift earlier in the week and I loved my "su-prise".

We went to Mimi and Baka's for dinner. Gavin loves his Baka and he has so much fun with him. We gave Mimi Poo-Pourri and we're still waiting to hear how it works haha :)
